Our wonderful clients support Caroline's Campaign Make-over event for Breast Cancer Sufferers

Gorgeous Star PR clients joined forces for Caroline Monk's charity, Caroline's Campaign, to provide seven ladies battling Breast Cancer a Valentine’s themed make-over day of a lifetime.

After being diagnosed with breast cancer in 2004, cancer campaigner, Caroline Monk knows all too well how devastating the effects of losing your hair, eye brows and eye lashes can feel for women. Caroline Comments It was a dreadful experience, the chemotherapy left me looking like a bald alien, and feeling very unfeminine and depressed.’ So in 2007 Caroline, recently awarded, London Personality of the year, set about helping other cancer sufferers by organising free pampering days, worth over £1,000 to help restore the confidence and lift the spirits of women battling the disease.

Since launching the campaign, Caroline’s helped dozens of women all over the UK. Caroline’s latest event was held in London on February 6th, with a Valentines theme to help seven ladies look and feel amazing in time to celebrate the most romantic day of the year with their loved ones. Unlike other charities, Caroline doesn’t ask for any money to help the women involved, but for local people to kindly donate their time and services for free to make a real difference to people’s lives.

This year the make-over event was held at our clients premises, Denise Lebar, a specialist London hair loss boutique, whose team provide the most innovative and advanced hair loss solutions for women experiencing any form of thinning or hair loss issues. Working together with Caroline’s team of volunteers they gave dramatic new looks to seven very deserving ladies, whose lives and confidence had been shattered by cancer. The day saw the women pampered with manicures, make-up sessions and even tattooed eyebrows by Karen Betts as well as the hair make-overs from Denise Lebar’s expert hair loss team and wigs styled and donated by Trendco.

When the women had been glitzed and glammed they were whizzed in a limousine over to our new client, the swanky Rydges Hotel to Gloucester Road for a star studded showbiz after party where they rubbed shoulders with the likes of Vanessa Feltz, Nicola McClean, Bobby Sabel, Lizzie Cundy, Sam Fox, Lorraine Chase and Zoe Hardman to name a few. Top Kensington hotel Rydges provided the venue, drinks, staff and food free of charge all evening so the ladies could end their special day in style.

Entertainment was provided by sexy Crooner Matthew VanKan and even an impromptu performance by Kitty Brucknell who belted out ‘Born This Way’.

Debenhams generously donated all the clothes and shoes for the ladies fashion make-overs which saw them dressed head to toe in red and black in keeping with the Valentine’s Day theme. When the ladies walked into the room to reveal their new looks to their friends, family and celebrity guests, there was not a dry eye in the house.

Caroline explains, ‘You cannot fail to be moved by what a difference this event has made to the lives of these ladies and their families. Restoring their appearance that had been ravaged by chemotherapy helped the women to regain a sense of their femininity and confidence giving them a real feeling of hope for the future. It means so much to these women to realize that total strangers are prepared to give up their time and services to give them a day to cherish and remember.’ ‘I can’t thank everyone enough who helped to make this event happen, and would urge other people around the UK to help run similar events to help women in their local communities.’

Through-out the evening the ladies were spoilt by delicious canapés, yummy cupcakes donated by Cute as a Cup Cake Ltd, bubbling Champers and danced the night away. Looking gorgeous, glamorous and best of all- Happy.

Hayley Sparkes, Gorgeous Star PR quotes, 'We were delighted  to involve two of our fantastic clients in Caroline's Campaign latest event. The team at Denise Lebar and Rydges worked tirelessly to ensure the ladies taking part had the day of their dreams, and I can't personally thank them enough for supporting such a worthy charity campaign.'

Caroline's Campaign Valentines Make-Over for Cancer Sufferers

After being diagnosed with breast cancer in 2004, cancer campaigner, Caroline Monk knows all too well how devastating the effects of losing your hair, eye brows and eye lashes can feel for women.

Caroline Comments ‘It was a dreadful experience, the chemotherapy left me looking like a bald alien, and feeling very unfeminine and depressed." So in 2007 Caroline, recently awarded, London Personality of the year, set about helping other cancer sufferers by organising free pampering days, worth over £1,000. Since launching the campaign, Caroline’s helped dozens of women in Manchester, London, Essex, Birmingham, Liverpool and Leeds and is now busy organising her latest event to be held on 6th February 2012 in London, to provide a Valentine’s Day themed make-over experience to some more very deserving women.
This year the make-over event is being held at Denise Lebar, a specialist London hair loss boutique, and together with Caroline’s team of volunteers will give dramatic new looks to more ladies, whose lives and confidence had been shattered by cancer.
The side-effects of life-saving cancer treatments such as chemotherapy – can have a devastating effect on the physical appearance. As well as nausea and fatigue, the side-effects of chemotherapy include hair loss, skin and nail problems, weight loss and weight gain.  These symptoms serve as a constant reminder of the disease and can make coping with the illness very difficult, especially for women. This special charity event will see the women pampered with manicures, make-up sessions and even tattooed eyebrows by top make-up artists as well as hair make-overs from Denise Lebar’s expert team.

Caroline adds,
“Losing your hair is about so much more than personal vanity – it is how other people perceive and treat you”, When I was ill, there were days I felt so low because I looked so hideous and I would have jumped at the chance of being given a makeover. I wish back then I had access to the team of experts that I am now working with. The permanent make-up and Denise Lebar’s hair replacements systems look so natural they really can transform women back to how they looked before they had undergone any cancer treatment. All the team we work with our giving up their time for free to help these deserving women. Hayley Sparkes from Gorgeous Star PR, has joined the team this year, to help bring the event together with the help of some of her generous clients.”

The women taking part in Caroline’s Campaigns up and coming event have all  been nominated by relatives and friends as deserving of the treatment as they fight their own personal battle with cancer. Following the make-over treatments at Denise Lebar Boutique, the women will be taken over to the top London Hotel, Rydges in Kensignton, to join their families and showcase their new look. Celebrity guests and supporters of Caroline’s campaign will also join in the celebrations to really help make the day extra special for the women taking part.

Caroline Summarises, “Helping people with cancer is not just about finding cures and funding research, it is about caring for the people who go through it. Chemotherapy can take away all that feels feminine, but if you look ill you will feel ill, if you look fabulous you will feel fabulous, and that is exactly how we will make these women and their families feel at the end of this special valentine’s day treat.’
